Track Linking - Migration
Written By Luciano Esposito
Track linking ensures that when a song is re-released under different versions (such as remixes, deluxe editions, or compilations), it is properly associated with its original version on streaming platforms. This helps maintain stream counts, playlist placements, and algorithmic recommendations.
When is Track Linking Needed?
Track linking is required when:
A track is being re-released under a different album or compilation.
A remastered or remixed version needs to be linked to the original release.
You are moving a track to a new label or distributor but want to keep its streaming history.
How to Request Track Linking
When distributing provide:
The UPC of the new release.
The ISRC(s) of the track(s) you want to link.
The original release’s UPC (if available).
The reason for the request (e.g., re-release, label change, or remix).
Important Notes
Not all streaming platforms support track linking in the same way.
Track linking does not guarantee that playlist placements will carry over.
You should always count on a minimum of 5-7 days because you need to give time for track linking after delivery.
